Betty Thompson McClaugherty, 78 of Narrows went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 29th, 2010 at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center in Christiansburg.

She was born in Glen Lyn on July 18th, 1932 and was the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Thompson and Jessie Havannah Thompson. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Carley Gene Pennington; and four sisters, Irene Thompson, Eva Thompson, Virginia Hash and Obberetta Faris.

Affectionately known as Nannie to all who knew her, she lived in Welch, West Virginia from 1993 until 2007 and made many friends during her time there, in addition to her years in Narrows. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Betty will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Theresa Conley and Troy Stafford of Peterstown, Regina Short and Howard of Welch; a son, Keith Pennington and June Judy of Narrows; twelve grandchildren, Shelly Boggess and husband Billy, Ricky Conley and wife Libby, Kristan Welton and husband Joey, Elijah Stafford, Curtis Edens, III and wife Bethany, Nicole Edens, Natalie Edens, Kourtney Short, Kassee Gibson and husband Howard, Danielle Short, Jeremy Pennington, and Justin Pennington; eleven great-grandchildren; Jessie, Dusty and Riley Rose Boggess, Madison, Morgan and Logan Conley, Blaize Hopkins, Sawyer Edens, Landon Edens, Abbagayle Gibson, and Braxton Pennington; several nieces, nephews and cousins, and many special friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 1st, 2010 at 2 PM in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows with Elder Arthur D. Short, Elder Dave Gibson, Elder John R. Justice and Brother Charles Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows Sunday from 6 to 8 PM.
