amem_lighthouse3.jpgSherman Miller Maxey, 63, of Clendennin Road, Narrows, departed this life, Good Friday afternoon, April 2, 2010, at his home after a short illness. Born in Narrows on January 8, 1947 he was a son of the late Lee Calvin and Virgie Lake Sarver Maxey.

He was a veteran of the U S Marine Corps, retired from Yokohama Tire Co. in Salem, and was baptized into the fellowship of Bethel Chapel Church near his home on his confession of faith in Jesus Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Pauline Covill, and his brother, Dennis Maxey. He leaves to cherish his memory his brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Nancy Maxey, of Newport, Harold and Peggy Maxey, of Maybrook, and Roger and Claudia Maxey, of Hialeah, Florida; his sister, Clara Smith, of Goodview; his good friends and caregivers, Joyce, Herman and A D Dennis, of Pearisburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Bethel Chapel Church on Clendennin Road with Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in the McClaugherty Cemetery in Clendennin. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening.
