Maxey, Alvin Dewey

Alvin Dewey Maxey, age 78, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022, at his home in Peterstown, WV. Born March 14, 1944, in Princeton, WV, he was the son of the late Dewey and Lessie Ellison Maxey.

Alvin was a graduate of Peterstown High School and a U.S. Army Veteran. He worked for 15 years in the parts department at Mitchener Chevrolet, and later worked as a long-haul truck driver for United Van Lines, where he retired from after 25+ years of service. He was a member of the Peterstown United Methodist Church, the Peters Mountain Antique Tractor Club, and a former member of the Peterstown Ruritan Club. He enjoyed restoring old cars and antique tractors, hanging out with his Shell crew, and supporting the James Monroe Mavericks. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

In addition to his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda McComas Maxey; one sister, Roberta Gaye Maxey; and one brother, James Leroy Maxey. Survivors include two sons, William Chad Maxey and wife Cindy of Goodview, VA, and Shawn L. Maxey and wife Loretta of Peterstown, WV; one brother, Lowell Jeffrey Maxey and wife Amy of Bridgeport, WV; sister-in-law, Sarah Maxey of Roanoke, VA; special friend, Janie Stafford of Staffordsville, VA; and five grandchildren, Madison (Trent), Abbey, Kaleigh, Sadie, and Lucas.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, December 18, 2022, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV. Visitation will be from 1:00PM until time of services on Sunday at the funeral home.
