Dr. Melvin R. Mattson passed away September 22, 2007. He was born on August 11, 1933 in Newton, MA. He was a professor at Radford University for twenty-five years and the Chair of the Marketing Department.

Dr. Mattson proudly served in the United States Army for 24 years, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He earned his M.A. from New York University and his B.S. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He is survived by his wife, Christa B. Mattson of Radford, his son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Tracey Mattson, grandchildren Leanna, Monika, Christopher, and Teresa, all of Willis, VA, and sister Polly Kulow of West Loudon, NH.

The family is having a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Road, Suite 106A, Roanoke, Virginia 24018. The Mattson family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
