Matherly, Hattie Phillips

Hattie Pearl Phillips Matherly, 96, of Blacksburg, joined a great heavenly reunion with many of her family that have gone on before her. All of her brothers and sisters and her in-laws; her beloved husband, James Arthur Matherly, Sr.; her children, Rev. James A. Matherly, Jr., Arleta Matherly Tilley and their spouses, George J. Tilley and Michael N. Knight; grandsons, Joey Matherly and Timmy Matherly; step children that she helped raise, Edward Matherly and Jean Matherly Phillips.

She was proud to have been born in the Indian Valley section of Floyd County. She was the daughter of Cornelius, the one she got her beautiful blues from, and Loma Ella Quesenberry Phillips. Her dad died when she was eight years old. She was raised by her step father, Dede Quesenberry, whom she often referred to as an angel.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Matherly Knight of Blacksburg; grandchildren, Becky Matherly Lewis, Michael A. Tilley and wife, Lisa, Daniel J. Tilley and wife, Candace, Gregory K. Tilley and wife, Jenny; eleven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Hattie.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2014, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service.
