Mathena, Jr., Joseph Eugene

Joseph Eugene Mathena Jr., also known as Scooter, age 35, gained his heavenly wings on Friday, December 10, 2021, at the Princeton Community Hospital in Princeton, WV. He was born November 11, 1986, Bluefield, WV.

Scooter was a happy go lucky type of man, whose hobbies included lawn mower racing, drag racing with his dad, and camping and fishing with family and friends. He was also the owner of Top Shelf Sealing.

Scooter was preceded in death by his wife, Santaya Morgan Mathena, and his maternal and paternal grandparents. Those left to cherish his memory include his father, Joseph Sr. and wife Delores “Momma” Mathena of Princeton, WV; his mother, Brenda Justice and husband Phillip of Bluefield, VA; sisters, whom he loved dearly, Amy Crews and husband Bucky of Oak Hill, WV, and Libby Martin of Princeton, WV; brother, TJ Martin and wife Heather of Lashmeet, WV; two nephews, whom he cherished, Dylan Mathena and Phillip Maxey; one niece, who was his baby girl, Haylee Cutshall; three stepchildren, Madison Robertson and Brayden and Camren Morgan; special uncles, Jimmy, Buck, Bobby, Frank, and Lil Donnie; and his furbaby, Bella. Also surviving are several cousins, uncles, aunts, and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00PM on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV, with Pastor Eddie Pettrey officiating. Burial will follow at the Peterstown Cemetery with KW and Michael Skeens, Gary Shinault, Little Jimmy Thornton, Roger Thornton, and Daniel Lester serving as pallbearers.
