Zane Charlton Martin, of Christiansburg, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, January 6, 2016. He was born on March 1, 1932, in Blacksburg, VA. Zane served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1957 in the Korean War.

He was a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years, where he was known as a great prayer warrior. He loved music and performed with his band – Zane Martin & the Blue Grass Buddies. He also played gospel music and made several albums.

Zane was preceded in death by his father and mother, William T. and Essie Martin; brother, Frank B. Martin; sister, Melita A. Martin.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Peggy King Martin; sister, Linda J. Martin; children, John C. Martin and wife Teresa, Larry Z. Martin and wife Barbara, Pamela M. Earles and husband Gary, all of Christiansburg, and Terry K. Martin and wife Amy of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Tracie R. Cook (Rob), J. C. Martin (Amelia), all of Christiansburg, Zach Earles (Leslie) of Charlotte, NC, Cody Earles of Christiansburg, Sally A. Howard (Todd) of Draper, Bradley Z. Martin (Chelsea) of Pilot, Fiona Martin and Clare Martin, both of Denver, CO; and great-grandchildren, Ryan Cook, Shellie Cook, both of Christiansburg, Lauren Howard, Aaron Howard, both of Draper, Jaxson Martin of Pilot, and Emery Martin of Christiansburg.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 8, 2016, from 6-8:30 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, with Pastor Matthew Kirkland officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
