Patsy Jean Martin, 62, of Christiansburg, Va., departed this life at New River Medical Center after a short battle with cancer. She was born in Giles County, Va. on October 29, 1946, and was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Elizabeth Martin Hungate; stepfather, David Hungate, McCoy; grandmother, Annie Saddler Martin; grandfather, James Harvey Martin, Newport; brothers-in-law, James Lucas, Pearisburg, and Bobby Whittaker, McCoy; stepbrother, Nelson Hungate, Shawsville; stepbrother-in-law, Duane Elliott, Prices Fork; stepsister-in-law, Betty Ann Hungate, McCoy; nephew, Michael Whittaker, McCoy.

She will be remembered for her enthusiasm to help anyone she could. She enjoyed yard sales and playing bingo where she met a special friend, Peggy Woodrum, and many others.

Patsy is survived by her longtime loving companion, Garnett (Bud) Stone, Christiansburg; children, Greg (Mouse) Hypes, Christiansburg, Crystal Hypes and fiance, Paul Davis, Johns Creek, Tammy Hiatt, Martinsville; sisters, Mary Alice Lucas, Pearisburg, Frankie Whittaker, McCoy, Sally and husband, James Stafford, Blacksburg; brothers, Doug and wife, Gail Williams, McCoy, Donnie Williams and companion, Mike Polek, Elliston; stepsister, Phyllis Hungate Elliott, Prices Fork; stepbrother, Pooch Hungate, McCoy; stepsister-in-law, Peggy Hungate, Salem; several grandchildren and greatgrandchildren; a very special aunt, Dolly Miller, Blacksburg.

The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and all the food during mom’s illness and Pastor Otey for his prayers and trips to the home. Also, hospice, a special nurse, Venus, all the nurses at New River Valley Medical Center for their kindness and care, and the care shown to her by Dr. Rotche and Connie.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, May 3, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gordon Lee and Pastor Jerry Otey officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg.
