Norma Jean Martin, 86, of Newport departed this life Friday morning, August 24, 2018 in the care of Warm Hearth in Blacksburg, VA. Born in Matoaka, WV on April 26, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Robert and Stella Opal McKinney Godfrey.

She was a member of The Newport-Mt Olivet United Methodist Church in Newport where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the choir earning the nickname “Big Angel”. For many years she was noted for her cooking abilities at Hilltop.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Roy Alvis Martin and her brothers Edward and Wesley Godfrey.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Katrina M Burda of Riner; her grandsons Dustin Mitcham of Riner and Elijah Burda of Riner, and her sister “Judy” Virginia Godfrey of Princeton, WV.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 am in the Newport-Mt Olivet United Methodist Church in Newport with Pastor Morris Fleicher officiating. Burial will follow in the Newport Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the services.
