Linda T. Martin, 54, of Route 3, Box 419, Bluefield W.Va. and formerly of Shawsville, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at Princeton Community Hospital, after a short battle with lung cancer. Among her last words were “My pilot, Jesus, is flying me home to heaven.”

She was born September 20, 1953 in Christiansburg, a daughter of the late Silas P. Martin and Ethel Saunders Martin. She was a member of the Church of God, a homemaker and a resident of Route 3, Bluefield for seven years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her dear aunt, Bertha Saunders, on November 15, 2007, with whom she made her home.

Linda loved history and wrote several pieces for local history books and newspapers. She liked to tour historical sites with her brother, G. Michael Martin and her aunt, Bertha Saunders. She also enjoyed vegetable gardening and making homemade Christmas decorations. She was a lover of the outdoors and all things of nature.

Linda is survived by her dear brother and only sibling, G. Michael Martin of Shawsville; first cousins, Vicki and Layne Howery of Floyd, Sheree Harris of Austin, Texas and Ramona Sisson and Osborne McNew, both of Shawsville; local cousins, Jan Tibbs of Princeton, W.Va., Carol Wimmer of Sandlick, W.Va., Fred Saunders of Sandlick, Bill Saunders of Glenwood Park, W.Va. and Sam Saunders of Princeton; supportive friends in her last days, Norma, Valerie, Macie, Goldi and Cindy and her beloved cats, Sweet Boy, Christoper and Jerry.

Graveside services, with burial to follow, will be conducted Saturday, November 24, 2007, 1:30 p.m., at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. The Rev. Herman Conley will be officiating. Those attending the graveside services are asked to meet at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, W.Va., at 1 p.m. Friends may call at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, Bluewell, on Friday, November 23, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell is serving the Martin family.
