Robert Lee Martin, Jr., 80, of Narrows, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 1st, 2010 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.He was born in Princeton, W.Va. on March 25th, 1929 and was the son of the late Robert Lee Martin, Sr. and Margie Opal Perdue Martin. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Mae Martin; a son, Jerry Lee Martin; a great-grandson, Nathan Poole; and two sisters, Betty Lee Martin and Madeline Opal Martin Pazzare.Robert served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and for many years worked in the timber industry. He loved fishing and hunting, but the love of his life was his family. He’ll be dearly missed by all who knew him.Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Janet Blankenship Martin of Narrows; two sons, Robbie Lee Martin and wife Brenda Sue of Princeton, Terry Dean Martin and wife Anna Marie of Princeton; a grandson, Douglas Leon Martin of Clarksburg, W.Va.; four daughters, Dorcas Elaine Martin of Narrows, Debra Jean Martin Catron and husband Everette of Winston-Salem, N.C., Rena Gay Martin Handy of Forest Hill, W.Va., Tina Marie Martin Handy of Narrows; 14 additional grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Griffith of Cantonment, Fla., Ethel Sifford of Parrott, Va.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many special friends, including a very special friend, Lance Jenkins of Clarksburg, W.Va.Funeral services will be held Monday, January 4th, 2010 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows, Va. with graveside rites conducted by VFW Post #6000 of Narrows, American Legion Posts #68 of Narrows, #311 of Pembroke, and #145 of Peterstown. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. The family requests that those sending memorial contributions, please consider the Giles County Relay For Life to benefit the American Cancer Society.
