Martin, Jr., Robert H.
Bob Martin, 72, passed away at his home on August 9, 2025, in Blacksburg, Virginia. Born on January 20, 1953, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, Bob lived a life marked by joy, loyalty, and a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures that made life meaningful.
Bob earned his bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech, a place that remained close to his heart throughout his life. He was a devoted supporter of Virginia Tech athletics and could often be found cheering on the Hokies with enthusiasm and pride, always at the Wild Turkey Tailgate.
Bob lived and raised all of his children in Decatur, Georgia while working as a Senior Property Manager at Cousins Properties, Inc. before working for Cushman and Wakefield leading up to his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Martin Sr. and Mary Jo Martin, as well as his beloved wife, Barbara Garland Martin. Their memory remained a guiding presence in his life.
Bob is survived by his four children: Elizabeth Landers (Dustin Landers) of Atlanta, Georgia; Joanna Nesbitt (Parker Nesbitt) of Shreveport, Louisiana; Emily Martin of Decatur, Georgia; and Robbie Martin of Washington, D.C. His love for them was unwavering and evident in the many ways he showed up for their lives—and later for the lives of his grandchildren; Hollis and Evelyn Nesbitt, Olivia, Quinn and Blair Landers, and Bailey Arnold.
A fun-loving spirit with a loyal heart, Bob had a knack for embracing life’s best moments. Whether casting a line while fishing, soaking up the sun at Sanibel Island, or attending concerts spanning every genre imaginable, he found joy in experiences both big and small. Perhaps most memorably, he never missed an opportunity to support his grandchildren—whether it was a school play or a soccer game—his presence was always felt and appreciated.
Bob’s legacy is one of warmth and wholehearted living. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire laughter and love in the years to come. A Memorial Service will be held on August 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Northside Presbyterian Church 1017 Progress St NW. There will be a Celebration of Life to follow.
