Martin, Gladys Irene Williams
Gladys Irene Williams Martin, 90, of Pembroke, departed this life Friday evening, July 6, 2012, at Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg after a long illness. Born in Hoges Store near Pembroke on October 8, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Johnny Gordon and Gertrude Martin Williams.
Gladys was supreme in her calling as a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She had been employed in years gone by at the Celanese Plant and at Barton’s Variety Store in Pembroke. She became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1944 and fulfilled numerous callings in the church.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Lillie Stafford and her brothers, Earl Williams and Noel Williams. Gladys leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband of seventy years and ten months (married in September of 1941), Ross Edward (Curly) Martin; her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Ann and Andrew Goad, of Tremonton, Utah; her grandchildren, Carrie Clark, Tasha Conrad and Torrey Goad; her great grandchildren, Todd Rugg, Jordan Rugg, Tanner Anderson, Tegan Conrad, Kaleigh Conrad, Jaycee Conrad and Sylvia Goad; her great great grandsons, Brandon Rugg and Gavin Rugg; her brothers, Ned Williams and his wife, Carrie, of Colfax, N.C. and Aubrey and his wife, Jo Ann Williams, of Hoges Chapel.
The family will receive friends at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Pembroke Ward on Virginia Ave. in Pembroke Tuesday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. in the church following the visitation. Entombment will be in Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg Wednesday morning at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions be made to the charity of choice.
