Frank Wayne Martin of Blacksburg passed away August 21 in the arms of his best friend and lifemate. Wayne was born in Roanoke, VA on April 7, 1941 to Frank Keen Martin and Lillian Penn Turpin Martin, both of whom predeceased him.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife and best friend of over 38 years, Lynn Hall Martin. Also surviving are brothers David (and Pat) Martin of Chattanooga, TN and Richard Martin of Vinton, VA, as well as nieces Virginia Martin and Lindsey Hall and nephew Stephen (and Julia) Martin.

Wayne was proud of his service in the US Navy, serving on the USS Forrestal during the Vietnam Era. He was also proud to be a 1970 graduate of Virginia Tech and remained a faithful supporter of his alma mater throughout his life. Wayne followed all the athletic teams, celebrating the successes, but remaining loyal in lean years as well. Wayne enjoyed a stellar career at Georgia Power Company in Atlanta where he met Lynn, his “Georgia peach”. They retired early to Blacksburg in 1996 and spent a number of great years traveling both the US and Europe.

A graveside service will be held August 23 at 1 pm at Westview Cemetery in Blacksburg, followed by a reception at Blacksburg Country Club from 2 – 4 pm where the family will visit with friends.

Those wanting to make memorial contributions may wish to consider Good Samaritan Hospice, 1160 Moose Dr., NW, Christiansburg, VA 24073.
