Edwin Ray Martin, 74, of Pulaski, Va., and Callands, Va., died on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Danville Regional Medical Center. He was born on June 5, 1935, in Pittsylvania County, the son of the late Loyd Gerald Martin and the late Vera Oakes Martin. He was a member of Christian Tabernacle Church. He was the principal of Riverlawn Elementary School in Pulaski County, Va., for 26 years and taught school in Pittsylvania County for six years. He was a United States Army veteran. Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Henrietta Holley Martin, of the residence. He is also survived by two sons, Eddie Martin and his wife, Gerin, of Forest, and David Martin and his wife, Heather, of Callands; one daughter, Mara Beth Martin Scott, of Ontario, Canada; six grandchildren, Madeline Martin, Claire Martin, Charlie Stephens, Dylan Scott, Alan Scott, and Emily Scott; three step children, Donna Springer and her husband, Scott, Holley Anne Hammett, and Lynne Eddlemon and her husband, Monte; seven step grandchildren, Phillip and Timothy Springer, Travis and Brandon Eddlemon, John Michael Griffith, Megan Sanders, and Anne Marie Sanders; and five greatgrandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 3, 2010, at the Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Chatham with the Rev. Roy Parker officiating. Burial will be held at Highland Burial Park, in Danville, Va. The family will receive friends at Scott Funeral Home on Friday, April 2, 2010, from 7 until 8 p.m. and at other times will be at the residence. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Callands Volunteer Fire Department. Scott Funeral Home in Chatham, Va., is respectfully serving the Martin family.
