Martin, Betty King

Elizabeth (Betty) King Martin, 68, of Check, passed away Friday, February 13, 2009. She was a devoted and faithful member of Havens Chapel United Methodist Church. Betty served her church and community volunteering for numerous organizations. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Harlie L. Martin, parents, Arvil and Indie King. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert (Bubba) and Vickie Martin, of Floyd; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Chuck Rector, of Bedford; grandson, Daniel Edwards, of Floyd; brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Diane King, of Floyd; great-grandson, Michael Wayne McGinnis; two nieces and spouses, Angie and Tom Petty, Brenda and Mark Peterson; nephew and spouse, Greg and Missy King; close neighbors known as Betty’s second daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Larry Smith, of Check; and her special family at Havens Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 16, 2009 at Havens Chapel United Methodist Church, with Pastor Darren Landon officiating and Pastor Cecil W. Brown assisting. Interment will follow in Restvale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd.
