Martin, Alva Virginia
Alva Virginia Martin, 94, of Ripplemead, Va., took her final journey to be with her Lord and family on Monday, May 24, 2010, from the new Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg. She was born in Ripplemead on July 4, 1915, a daughter of the late Harry and Della Fisher Douthat. She was also preceded in death by her husband, E. Howard Martin; sisters, Lema Lambert, Geneva Philpott, Azell May and Betty Banta; brothers, George Douthat and Harry M. Douthat. She was a life-long member of Riverview Baptist Church in Ripplemead. She leaves to cherish her memory her son and daughter-in-law, Garry and Betty S. Martin, of Ripplemead; her grandson, Kevin Martin and wife Jeanette, of Ripplemead; her great-grandchildren whom she dearly loved, Amber, Cory, and Zane Martin, of Ripplemead; her greatgreat-granddaughter, Jemma Shay Atwood, of Rich Creek; and her brother, Ray Douthat, of Pembroke. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke, with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating. Private interment services for the family will be in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, Thursday morning at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours before the services following a family meal in Alva’s honor at Riverview Baptist Church Fellowship Center.
