marshall donald levi srDonald Levi Marshall Sr., 77, of Pembroke, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, May 14, 2013, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Pembroke on March 27, 1936, he was a son of the late Levi S. and Ruth Kanode Marshall. Don was a devout Christian, lifetime member of Pembroke Christian Church where he served as Elder and Deacon, was a veteran of the United States Air Force, a member of Pembroke American Legion Post 311, served on the Town Council of Pembroke for over 34 years, was retired from the Celanese Plant at Narrows as Air Conditioning Supervisor with over 38 years service, had worked with his father in the sawmill business in Pembroke, a 1954 graduate of Pembroke High School “The Corncutters”, and was a member in good standing with the Tangent Gang in Pembroke. He was preceded in death by a sister Bonetta Marshall. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted and beloved wife of 58 years Rosemarie Hollis Marshall; his sons and daughters-in-law, Donald L. Jr. and Susan Marshall, of Pembroke and Dean M. and Amy Marshall, of Pembroke; his daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela Marie Albert, of Pembroke, Yvette May and Phillip Pennington, of Pembroke, Yvonne Kay and Ronnie Harris, of Christiansburg; his sisters and brother-in-law, Loretta M. and Lester Tickle, of Pembroke, Carolyn M. Kessinger, of Pearisburg; his mother-in-law Patricia Hollis, of Fairfield, Ohio; his 12 grandchildren, Christopher and Ashley Bales, Kala, Wendy and Molly Marshall, Zachary Atkins, Lukas and Lyndsey Jackson, and Lauryn Marshall, Chantry, Trent, and Brogan Pennington; his niece, Kimberly Medley; his nephews, Jeffery and Todd Tickle; and his five great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in the Pembroke Christian Church with Pastor Reggie Britts, Pastor Eddie Kendall, and Pastor Gary Poff officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg with graveside military honor guard and services by American Legion Post 311 in Pembroke, Post 68 in Narrows, and Post 145 in Peterstown and VFW Post 6000 in Narrows. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the Pembroke Christian Church or the Giles County Christian Service Mission.
