Marvin (Ray) Marshall, 90, of Dublin, Va., went to meet our Lord on Thursday, March 16, 2006 at 3:30 p.m.

He was born on January 29, 1916 in a one room log cabin on his Grandfather Green Berry Mabry’s farm in Dugspur, Va. His parents were Elza and Pearlie Mabry Marshall of Kimball, W.Va.

He worked for the Atlantic Smokeless Coal Company of Asco, W.Va. for several years until the mines shut down in the middle 50’s. He was a sales agent for Home Beneficial Life Insurance Co. for 25 years.

He became a Christian in his 20’s and remained a faithful follower of Christ the rest of his life. He was a faithful worker in the First Church of God, Blacksburg, Va. for over 36 years and for the past 11 years he attended the First Church of God in Dublin. He had a passion for spreading God’s word and was a very active member of the Gideons International for 42 years.

He is preceded in death by his precious wife of 59 years, Dorothy Lee Walker Marshall; his sons, Marvin Lee and Richard Allen and his daughter, Elaine Albert.

He is survived by his sister, Geneva Davidson of Fayetteville, N.C.; his daughters and sons-in-law, Anita and Donald B. Smith of Dublin, Vera and George Matthews of Woodhaven, N.Y.; Kathleen and Wayne Perdue of Dublin; Mary and Roland Wright of Pulaski; daughter-in-law, Louise Marshall of Rocky Mt., Va.; and his son, Timothy Marshall of Colorado; grandchildren, Donald and Robin Albert, Teresa and Rusty Kopp, Tanya and James Bennett, Trena Low, Shirl and Larry Taylor, Debra and Terry Altizer, Dennis and Jessica Smith, Shamarie, Stephen and Shane Marshall, George III and Matthew Matthews, Norman and Marcie Dove, Tony and Dawn Dove, Chris and Mandy Wright, Andrew Wright; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great -great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 20, 2006 at 10 a.m. in the First Church of God, Blacksburg. with the Rev. Edward Smith and the Rev. David Mumpower officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons International, P.O. Box 574, Blacksburg, Va. 24063.

Friends may call anytime Sunday, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr., Blacksburg.
