Charles Junior Marshall, 85, of the Newbern Community, passed away Friday, July 25, 2008 at his home. Born April 18, 1923 in Thorpe, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Jacob Lewis Cast Marshall and Elsie Collins Marshall. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Irene Hurst Marshall, brother, Stanley Winford “Sonny” Marshall, and stepson, Daniel Ray Hurst.

Mr. Marshall was retired from Burlington Mills with 37 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served in the Pacific Theatre in World War II under General MacArthur with the First Cavalry Division. He was the winner of the Asiatic Theatre Medal with four bronze stars, Philippine Liberator medal with one bronze star, and a victory and good conduct medal. He was a member of the Pulaski Primitive Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, Thomas Lynn Marshall, Pulaski; daughter, Sherry Marshall Hurst and husband, Andy, Winston Salem, N.C.; stepchildren, Sue and Jack Wright, Newbern; Teresa and Jim Davis, Newbern; Jimmy and Joyce Hurst, Newbern; Timmy and Debbie Hurst, Newbern; Mark and Kimberly Hurst, Harrisonburg; 15 grandchildren, Ben Wright, Abby Wright, Scott Hurst, Stefanie Hurst, Shannon Hurst, Sara Davis, Jessica Davis, Christie Coleman, Emily Hurst, Caleb Hurst, Samantha Hurst, Ashley Hurst, Sterling Hurst, Lynn Hughes, Cindy Bailey; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Gladys Marshall Dalton-Pulaski; brother, Ralph Ernest Marshall, Pulaski.

Funeral services will be held Monday 11 a.m. at Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski with Elder Don Singleton officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin with military honors conducted at the graveside by the Pulaski VFW Post 1184.
