Burton W. Marsh passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2015 at his home in Pulaski, VA at the age of 67. He was predeceased by his mother Dorothy Marsh Bradley, and survived by his brother, nephew, niece, grandnephews, and step father Richard.

He was born on December 27, 1947 in Milwaukee Wisconsin. He attended the Culinary Institute of America and embarked on a variety of food-fueled endeavors. He found his “home” at Radford University where he worked as a Board of Operations Manager at Muse for 29 years. He participated in the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program of Pulaski, where he acted as a mentor, friend, and family member to Jamie Lytton for 20+ years.

In the earlier years he had a passion for being an umpire, as well as refereeing soccer games. A majority of his free time was spent on the New River fishing, or on fishing trips in Florida while visiting his Step Father Dick. Burt was a very unique, quick-witted man who wouldn’t hesitate to share his thoughts. All of his friends and family will miss him tremendously.

Burt was a private person and wished to be cremated. There will be no formal service, but a Celebration of Life will be held at the Selu Barn in Radford from 1PM to 3PM on Saturday January 23, 2016. This will be a casual event where finger foods and drinks will be provided.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Burt’s name to a named golf scholarship at Radford University, or Big Brother Big Sister Foundation in Pulaski, VA.

Directions to the Selu Observatory: Turn at Comfort Inn Suites in Radford onto Lovely Mount Drive; proceed for 0.8 mile. Turn LEFT onto Dry Valley Road and cross the bridge over the interstate (I-81); proceed for 1.4 mile; Turn RIGHT onto Sale-Selu Lane. The turn is easy to miss; portions of this road are unpaved. Follow the road to the end, where it will climb a hill and stop at the Selu Conservancy retreat center. The building that looks like a barn with a silo houses Selu Observatory.
