James Garfield “Jimbo” Manns, Jr., 76, passed away Monday, March 3, 2008 at his home in Pulaski.
He was retired from Lynchburg Foundry. Additionally, Jim’s exceptional skills as a builder and contractor were provided to countless community businesses and families.
He was born November 30, 1931 in Radford the son of the late James Garfield Sr. and Hattie Austin Manns.
Survivors include his wife Alveda B. Manns of Pulaski; four daughters and son-in-law, Gerri Anderson Manns of New York, NY, Jodi and Charlie Neal of Mitchelville, MD, Tricia Manns of Charlotte, NC and Dana Manns of Pulaski; three sons and daughters-in-law, James G. III and Juanita Manns of Pulaski, Chester and Judy Manns and Peter Manns, both of New River; two step children, Cherolyn and Mario Ellis, both of Oakland, CA; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Caroline Manns and John H. Manns, all of New River; six sisters, Elizabeth Casey, Flossie Brown, and Nenzerine Lewis, all of New River, Lillian Valentine of Greensboro, NC, Betty Casey of New River, and Ava Manns Pope of Greensboro, NC; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and three step grandchildren; a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 7, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Missionary Baptist Church in New River with Rev. Montie Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Burial Park in Radford. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Friday at the church prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the James G. Manns Jr. Scholarship Fund, NRCC Educational Foundation, P. O. Box 1127, Dublin, VA 24084. The Manns family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
