Calvin (Jim) Coolidge Manning, 83, of Roanoke, formerly of Copper Hill, passed away Monday, July 16, 2007 after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.

He was a retired employee of Jones Motor Lines, and also served in the U.S. Army. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Oliver W. Manning, Sr.; mother, Pearl Puckett Manning Craighead; step-mother, Nellie W. Manning; brothers, Herbert W. Manning, Cleveland Manning, Melvin H. Manning, Bobby H. Manning, Benny L. Manning, Terry L. Manning and David W. Manning; sisters, May Manning, Cammie Manning and Bondeen M. Barger.

He is survived by his special companion, June M. Graybill of Roanoke; brothers, Oliver W. Manning, Jr. of Salem, Paul Manning, Larry and Rhonda Manning, both of Copper Hill, Henry Manning of Floyd, Rocky and Celeste Manning of Greensboro, N.C., and Michael Manning of Radford; sisters, Katherine M. and Junior Sowers of Floyd, Linda M. and Tom Iddings of Riner; special sister-in-law, Julia Manning of Salem; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at Roanoke Memorial 8 West for all their loving care and support.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd. A service to celebrate his life will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating. Interment will follow at the Puckett Cemetery, Copper Hill. Arrangements by Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd.
