Manes, Sr., David Clyden

David Clyden Manes, Sr., 67, passed away on Sunday, November 6th, 2022 at Carilion New River Medical Center where he was surrounded by family and received the highest possible care.

He was born July 21, 1955 to Alexander Manes Jr. and Ethel Marie (Christian) Manes, and grew up in Iaeger, W.Va. where he attended Iaeger High School and loved those cubs! He was the first to start a Iaeger Cubs Football web page in the late 1990s and ran it for several years. He was a devoted husband of 46 years to Geneva (Hagerman)Manes. They have 5 wonderful children: David Jr. (wife-Kristi), Angela Stiltner(husband-Russell), Timothy (wife-Maranda), Gary (wife-Angela), and Breanna Simmons (husband-Hunter). He was blessed with 11 grandchildren who he loved and loved to aggravate. They are: Kourtni and Hailey Manes; Isaac, Ian, Jacob, Destiny, Gabriel, Chloe and Maria Manes; and Liam and Xavier Manes

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing guitar, amateur radio, ATV riding and sports; especially football and baseball, with his favorite football team being the West Virginia University Mountaineers and baseball team being the Cincinnati Reds. He spent 44 years as a coal miner (electrician) of which 27 years were with Arch Coal (where he lovingly received the nickname – Jose); first with Mingo Logan and then Mountain Laurel where he retired in July 2020. He was a baptized member of Jehovah Witnesses for 40 years and attended the Kingdom Hall at Welch, W.Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joseph Manes Sr.; brother-in-law, Will Mabe; and mother-in-law, Beatrice Rose Hagerman.

He is survived by his wife, kids, grandkids, sister Alexis Mabe, brother Brien Manes and wife Donna, sister-in-law Carol Manes, father-in-law Theodore Hagerman, and his beloved Boston Terrier Sassy.

He will be horribly missed by family, friends, spiritual family and all who knew him.
