Mandelstamm, Maria Theresia

Maria Theresia Mandelstamm died Friday, June 1, 2012, at Heritage Hall Health Care Center, Blacksburg, after a long illness. She was born Maria Theresia Buhlmeyer on October 15, 1926, in Rheda, Germany. After coming to the United States to practice medicine, she married Allan Mandelstamm, who survives her. She and her husband came to Blacksburg in 1974. For 21 years, Maria Mandelstamm was Head of the Student Health Service at Radford University. Afterwards, she worked for many years as emergency room physician at Montgomery Regional Hospital as well as at various hospitals elsewhere in Virginia and in Arizona, New Mexico, Maine, New York and Michigan. She has requested that there be no funeral service for her. Those wishing to do so may make donations to the Blacksburg Rescue Squad, 200 N.
