MacMillan, Susan Cohen

Susan Cohen MacMillan, 54, originally of Norfolk, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Blacksburg on June 27, 2012. Born in Norfolk, Va., she is survived by her husband, David T. MacMillan. Susan is also survived by her three children, Gordon David MacMillan, of Virginia Beach, Sarah Jane MacMillan, of Crocetta del Montello, Italy, and Laurel Marie MacMillan, of Charlottesville. She is survived by her parents, Ramon and Rita Cohen, of Norfolk; and her brother, Bruce Cohen, of Norfolk. Susan is survived by many uncles, aunts, and cousins, as well as nieces and nephews. Susan was raised in Norfolk and graduated from Granby High School in 1975. After graduating from the University of Texas School of Nursing at Houston in 1980, Susan met David MacMillan, who had attended Granby High School, just seven years prior to her. They were married in Norfolk on October 1, 1983. Susan and David moved to McAlester, Okla., where their three children were born. In 1994, the MacMillan family moved to Blacksburg, where Susan worked as a registered nurse and continued to raise their three children. Susan always found great joy in her children as well as traveling with her husband. Her two dogs, Chloe and Tippy, were her constant companions. Susan’s ability to make conversation with anyone she met, her easy laughter and sense of humor, and her wonderful smile were some of her many gifts to the world. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 1, 2012, at the H. D. Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Norfolk. This will be followed by a procession and burial service at the Forest Lawn Cemetery.
