Eleanor Hall MacInnis, of Blacksburg, died December 31, 2013 at the age of 87. Born Orma Grace Leavitt on March 13, 1926 in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Walter and Edna Leavitt, she was adopted as an infant by James and Martha Hall.

She grew up in Twin Falls and in Van Wert, Ohio, attended Purdue University, and married her husband of 60 years, Gordon A. MacInnis, in 1946. She lived in Vermont, Idaho, Washington State, and Ohio before moving to Blacksburg in 1962. She was a devoted wife, a constant mentor and inspiration to her children, and an intellectually curious woman who enjoyed painting, writing, traveling, and the company of her many friends.

She was preceded in death by her natural and adoptive parents; by her husband; and by her half-brothers, Jeff and Bob Ross. She is survived by her children, Ronalee MacInnis of Blacksburg; Mary Masciovecchio and her husband, Lou, of Anderson, S.C.; Bruce MacInnis of Blacksburg; Stewart MacInnis and his wife, Valorie, and their children, Ellen and Michael, of Buena Vista, Va.; Brian MacInnis and his wife, Kim, and their children, Ian and Neil, of Christiansburg, Va.; by her sister, Harriett Hall Deer of Temple Terrace, Fla.; and by cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family gives special thanks to hospice nurse Heather Bishop for her care and compassion.

A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Northside Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Linda J. Dickerson officiating. The family will receive friends at the church after the service.
