lyons_cora_henlineCora Brite Henline (Toots) Lyons, 86, passed away Monday, April 25, 2011, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. Born in Spruce Pine, N.C., she was one of 10 children of the late Dock S. Henline and Sarah Etta Blalock Henline. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, six sisters, her first husband, Rufus Andrew Shull, and a grandchild, Stephanie Marie Atkins. She is survived by her husband, Bill Lyons; daughters, Judy Shull Carter, of Vienna, Brenda Shull Woolwine and husband, Roger, of Christiansburg, Deborah Shull Atkins, of Christiansburg; a son, Rufus Andrew Shull Jr. (Buddy) and wife, Bev, of Radford; stepdaughters, Michele Bowen and husband, Tommy, of Stanley, N.C., Barbara Cornelious and husband, Frank, of Bulgaria; stepson, Chris Lyons, of Greensboro, N.C.; brother, Bill Henline, Spruce Pine, N.C. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 13 greatgrandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Brite was a waitress at her sister’s restaurant in Boone, N.C., then worked at the Pentagon as a clerk typist. She moved to Virginia with her first husband where they owned and operated a dry cleaners (Master Cleaners and later Shull’s Dry Cleaners) in Christiansburg. She met Bill Lyons while he was supervising the construction of the Vet School in Blacksburg. After they were married they moved to North Carolina and remained in Wilmington, N.C. until 2001, at which time they moved back to Christiansburg. She never met a stranger and was very outgoing to everyone she met. She loved to bowl, stayed active by taking aerobics, was also a hospital volunteer and one of her favorite things to do was play cards. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942, or to Beaver Creek Baptist Church, 768 Beaver Creek Road, Spruce Pine, NC (for the Swann Cemetery Fund). The family would like to thank the staff of Montgomery Regional Hospital, the CCU, ICU and ER as well as the staff of Heritage Hall. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 28, 2011, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral will be held on Friday, April 29, 2011, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Christiansburg, with interment following at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
