Lyon, Sara Carter

Sara Lyon 72, of Blacksburg, went to her heavenly home Thursday, May 11, 2023. Funeral services will be at McCoy Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at 2:00 in the chapel. Visitation will be at 1:00 prior to the service.

Sara was born in Jacksonville, FL. She was the daughter of the late Sara Carter and Charleston Carter.

Sara came to Blacksburg with her husband Frank Lyon. His friends fast became her friends, and they continued making treasured relationships with the people of Blacksburg.

Sara is survived by Frank and their two beagles Tucker and Shadow. She has two sons Mike Mims of Pembroke, Chris Mims, and her treasured grandchildren Keegan, Tyler, and Caroline Mims of Barren Springs. Her daughter Christina Gardner of Blacksburg. Her stepdaughter Katherine Luft of Bagota, TN, and stepson Frank Lyon, Jr. of Socastee, SC. Her sister Kathy (Terry) Johnson, and two brothers Joe (Sandy) Carter, and Bobby (Kay) Carter all of Florence, SC. She also had two special nieces Sally and Holly and four great-nephews, whom she thought of as her own grandchildren, all of Florence.

Memorials may be made to Christian Appalachian Project or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
