Robert Russell Lynch, 78, peacefully passed away Thursday, July 17, 2008, after a long illness in Montvale, Va.

Beloved father of son, Christopher, of Avon, Ohio; and daughters, Kathryn (Kitty) and husband, Jim Rose, of Saline, Mich., and Alison and husband, Greg Jackson, of Avon, Conn.; dear brother to sister, Katherine (Kay) and husband Monroe Macpherson, of Winchester and Smith Mountain Lake, Va.; uncle to nephews, Douglas and wife, Laurie, of Fairfax, Va., and David and wife, Julie, of Wytheville, Va.; and niece, Pamela and husband, Doug Brouder, of Fairfax, Va.; and grandfather of William (Bill) and Kathrine (Kara) Jacobitz, Patricia (Tricia) and Russell Lynch, and Kyle and Connors Jackson.

A graduate of the University of Michigan and a former member of the United States Naval Reserve, he was a long-time resident of Ann Arbor, Mich., and a well-known international travel consultant. He later worked extensively with the Youth for Understanding student exchange program where he was responsible for the safe travel and arrangements of thousands of young American, European and South American students as they experienced other cultures in their collective travels abroad.

He first retired near Boone, N.C., then Pearisburg and Blacksburg, Va., where he mentored numerous area residents in achieving their belated high school diplomas.

A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 8, 2008, at The Golf and Outing Club, 400, E. Stadium Blvd., Ann Arbor, Mich.
