Sam Junior Lucas, 75, of Pembroke departed this life Sunday evening, September 3, 2017, at the home of his daughter in Rich Creek. Born at Interior in Giles County on October, 20, 1941, he was a son of the late Bessie Lucas Short and Samuel Chapman Tawney. He had been employed with the Montgomery County Schools prior to his retirement. He and his wife were members of the Pearisburg Church of God and he had been serving as an evangelist and filled in at churches needing a pastor and had been active in the New Hope Baptist Church in Montgomery County. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father John Short and his brother Eddie Short.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Maxine Witt Lucas; his sons Nathan, Gary, and Sam Lucas; his daughter Tina Stump; his sister Phyllis Hall; his step-sons Jack, Timothy, Richard, and Clarence Tawney; his step-daughters Tina Tawney and Kim Wagle; his seven grandchildren; his eighteen great-grandchildren; his fourteen step-grandchildren.
