Lucas, Lorene Reese

Lorene Reese Lucas, 87, of Castle Rock Road in Pembroke departed this life Sunday evening November 25, 2007 at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg after a long illness.

Born in Ironto on August 16, 1920 she was a daughter of the late “FH” Ferris Houston and Daisy Sessler Reese. Lorene was a graduate of Shawsville High School, a charter member of Calvary Christian Church in Pembroke and worked for over forty years as a beautician for the most part at Kanodes Beauty Parlor in Pembroke. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of sixty-five years William Coburn Lucas, her brothers Earl F. Reese and Frank Reese, and her step-mother Edna Mae Reese.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters Joyce L. DiRico of Pembroke and Judy and her husband Albert Gillespie of Pembroke; her grandchildren Tony and Teri DiRico of Augusta, GA, Sally DiRico of Christiansburg, Milicent (Millie) Stevers of Pembroke, Chris DiRico of Pembroke; five great-grandchildren Tyler DiRico, Kaleb DiRico, Justin DiRico, Keela Dooley, Lucas Stevers; step-brothers Donald Lee Radford, Powell Radford, both of Pembroke, Jewell Radford of Big Stony Creek; step-sister Nannie Lou Martin of Pembroke; sisters-in-law Emma Williams of Pearisburg, Treva Reese of Roanoke; her special friend and neighbor for over fifty years Margaret Seymour; and her caregivers Connie Stewart, Geraldine McCroskey, Lucy Licea and Lizzie Johnston.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 AM in The Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with Pastor Bobby Sutphin and Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 PM.
