Lucas, James

James (Jimmie) Lucas, 65, of Radford, Va., passed away at his home on Thursday, January 8, 2009. He was born on August 4, 1943, in Giles County, Va., to the late Walter Harrison and Minnie Davis Lucas. He was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Jimmie leaves behind four sons and daughters-in-law, Luke and Melissa Lucas, of Blue Springs, Mark and Stephanie Lucas, John and Ami Lucas, all of Christiansburg, and Joey Lucas and fiance, April Carter, of Blacksburg; a daughter, Leona Lucas, of the home; and grandchildren, Samantha, Danielle, Megan, Kaitlin, Ethan, and Bethany Lucas. Also surviving is former wife and mother of his children, Brenda Simpkins, of Blacksburg; several brothers and sisters; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Before becoming disabled he was a life-long carpenter. Jimmie enjoyed listening to Classic country and bluegrass music as well as spending time in the woods of his former home on Blue Springs Road.

The family will receive friends at The Horne Funeral Home on Sunday, January 11, 2009, from 3 to 5 p.m. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2009, in The Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gleasanna Johnson officiating.
