lucas_frances_clinebellFrances C. Lucas, 89, of Blacksburg, Va., passed away on Monday, September 20, 2010, at Westminster Canterbury in Virginia Beach. Frances was born Mary Frances Clinebell on January 21, 1921, in Buchanan, Botetourt County, Va., to Dennis and Eloise Clinebell and was the youngest of nine children. Frances was an involved, lifelong resident of the Blacksburg community and a committed member of the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church for nearly six decades before moving to be near family in Virginia Beach in 2003. She was preceded in death in August 2001 by her husband of 54 years, William H. Lucas. Frances is survived by her three sons, Charles H. Lucas, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., David W. Lucas and wife, Laurie, of Venice, Fla., and Miles W. Lucas, of Virginia Beach, Va.; three grandchildren, USN Petty Officer 3rd Class, Eric W. Lucas, of Charleston, S.C., Grant D. Lucas, of Portland, Ore., and Paige J. Lucas, of Chesapeake, Va.; a sister-inlaw, Alva J. Lucas, of Blacksburg; in addition to nieces and nephews. At Frances’ request, all friends and family are invited for Interment Services at Roselawn Memorial Gardens 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 10, 2010, conducted by the the Rev. Dr. Charles Taylor, followed by a Celebration of Life Memorial Service 3;30 p.m. at the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church. The family would like to thank the gracious staff at Westminster Canterbury and the Hoy Center for the loving care that Frances received for over seven years as a resident. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blacksburg Presbyterian Church, Westminster Canterbury of Virginia Beach, 3100 Shore Dr., Virginia Beach, Va. 23451, or to the Alzheimer’s Association .
