Lucas, Deborah Nester
Deborah Faye Nester Quesenberry Lucas, 68 of Radford, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2022. She is preceded in death by her mother, Pauline Griffith; mom, Eloise Cunningham Nester; and siblings, Tamra Roberts and Donna Griffith.
Debbie lived her life always putting others before herself. She always had a smile on her face resulting in a smile on your face. She enjoyed the simple things in life, raising two wonderful daughters and devoting a life profession of working with and around young students during her 30+ years of service to Radford University.
She was known as the “card lady” to her father and siblings. Not a holiday went by that we did not receive an expression of the season. Debbie thrived on being around her family and friends who are truly going to miss her.
She is survived by her children, Melissa Quesenberry & fiancé Vastine Walker of Dublin and Christy Roop & fiancé Mark Crawford of Christiansburg; father, Robert Lee Nester, Sr.; grandchildren, Stuart Quesenberry (Morgan) of Kannapolis, NC, Corey Roop (Amri Enger) of Willis, Kelsey Roop (fiancé Peyton Bailey) of Knoxville, TN, and Lindsay Hunt of Dublin; great-grandchildren, Noah Quesenberry of Kannapolis, NC, and Hemma & Sergio Delatorre of Willis; siblings, Charlotte Nester Phillips (Duane) of WIlliamsburg, Robert Lee Nester, Jr. of Morehead City, NC, Jeanette Nester Brown (Dale) of Atlantic Beach, NC, Teresa Nester (Susan) of Floyd, Dale Nester (Stephanie) of Fredericksburg, Lisa Lovern (David) of Christiansburg, Diana Weeks (Roger) of Riner, and Debbie Keith (Douglas) of Riner; and special friends, Janet Garrett and Joe Lucas.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Julius Dickerson officiating. Interment will follow in the Jacksonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

I’m so sad to hear that Miss Debbie has passed away. I got to know her a little when she was working in the library’s cafe, and she was so wonderful, warm, and supportive. Many students were touched by her kindness, and she will be missed.
