Lucas, Betty Fleeman
Betty Fleeman Lucas, 67, of Pearisburg, went to be with her heavenly Father on February 29, 2012. She went peacefully in her sleep at Skyline Nursing and Rehab in Floyd. She was born on July 2, 1944, in Pearisburg, to her parents, William Horton Fleeman and Viola Phlegar Fleeman.
Betty was in the first graduation class of Giles High School in 1962. Betty worked in her younger years at the Virginian Leader as a proofreader, and from there she worked at Virginia Tech as a Librarian.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Dena L. Puckett and husband, Johnny, of Christiansburg, Hope Lucas and companion, John Peoples, of Pearisburg, one granddaughter, Alexis Puckett, of Christiansburg; her former husband, and friend, Arnold E. “Corky” Lucas, of Radford, who was the father of her two beautiful daughters; one sister, Sharon F. Martin, of Pearisburg; two aunts and uncles, Charles “Bud” and Joyce Fleeman, of Roanoke, Donald and Margaret Pack, of Pearisburg; many cousins, friends, and of course her beloved cat, White Whiskers.
Betty was an outspoken person and was told this was from the Fleeman side of the family. She will be sorely missed by her family and her wonderful caregivers at Skyline Nursing Home, who loved and cared for her just like family.
Funeral Services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012, at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Givens Funeral Home for the funeral expenses.
