amem-artEdna Bonham Love of Pulaski passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at the age of 92. She was born on October 17, 1923 in Chilhowie, Va. to Samuel and Roberta Bonham.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel L. and Roberta D. Bonham; husband, Robert H. Love; and brother, Samuel Lee Bonham, Jr. Edna is survived by her sisters, Anne B. Catron, Mildred B. Clark, and Sarah B. Boeke; brother, David B. Bonham; and sister-in-law, Joyce Snapp. She is also survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Diana B. Love and James R. Brown; and sons, Robert H. Love, Jr. and Dennis D. Love. Edna was especially close to her granddaughter and her husband, Lindsey A. Love and Samir Vugdalic; and her great-grandson Leo A. Love. Edna is also survived by her step-granddaughters, Corinne M. Brown and Lauren C. Brown. She was loved by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.

Edna received her B.S. in Arts and Crafts from the University of Tennessee in 1945 and a Master’s Degree in Art Education in 1970 from Radford University. She taught Art at Pulaski High School and then PCHS for 30 years, was an Assistant Professor of Art at VPI and SU 1988-1991, and Adjunct Art teacher at NRCC. She helped conceive the Fine Arts Center for the NRV in 1978, was a founding member, and served tirelessly as a lifelong member of its board. In 1992, Edna established The Art Place in her hometown of Chilhowie as a community center for the arts. She spent her lifetime devoting her energies to promoting the arts and arts education for children and adults.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski. A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 7, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Pulaski with the Reverend Melissa Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Saint James Lutheran Church in Chilhowie, Va.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Children’s Education Fund of the Fine Arts Center for the NRV, 21 West Main Street, Pulaski, Va. 24301 and The Art Place, c/o Suntrust Bank, P.O. Box 559, Chilhowie, Va. 24319.
