lorton pauline rotenberryPauline Rotenberry Lorton, 93, of Radford, died Friday, October 21, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, William D. Lorton; her parents, C.W. and Minnie Rotenberry; three brothers, Fred E., William, and Ralph Rotenberry; two sisters, Thelma and Essie Rotenberry; three sisters-in-law, Elizabeth, Mary and Virginia Rotenberry; and a step-great-grandson, John David Stephens. She is survived by three nephews, Tom Rotenberry and wife, Pam, of Bristol, Tenn., David Rotenberry and wife, JoAnn, of Kingsport, Tenn., Fred A. Rotenberry and wife, Barbara, of Hillsville; also three great-nephews, Walter Rotenberry and wife, Perla, of Raleigh, N.C., Joe Rotenberry, of Hillsville, and William B. Rotenberry, of Bristol, Tenn. Survivors also include Mrs. Lorton’s stepdaughter, Lois L. Horton; stepgrandson, David Horton and wife, Sandy; stepgranddaughter, Beth Connelly; two step great-grandsons, Ryan Stephens and Matthew Connelly. Following Mrs. Lorton’s graduation from Appalachia High School in Appalachia, Va., she entered D.C. General Hospital School of Nursing in Washington, D.C. where she graduated in 1939. Following her graduation she worked briefly at Pulaski General Hospital, Pulaski, before entering the College of William and Mary Richmond Division of Social Work and Public Health, where she received a certificate in Public Health Nursing. She was employed by the Virginia Department of Health, where she served as Public Health Nurse in Rockingham County, Tazewell County and the City of Radford. She retired following 37 years of service. She was a long time member of First Christian Church, where she served on the Building Committee for the present church building. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, October 24, 2011 at DeVilbiss Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at First Christian Church, Radford, with the Rev. Gina Rhea officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin.
