Long, Virginia Crawford

Virginia Mae Long, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV. Born November 26, 1932, in Blue Lick, WV, she was the daughter of the late Charles Lewis and Mae Copeland Crawford.

Virginia was an active member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Ballard, WV, for nearly 50 years and served in numerous roles for her church family. She enjoyed singing in the church choir as well as the senior citizen’s choir. She also loved cooking and baking for her friends and family. She was a highly skilled quilter and hand made numerous beautiful quilts for her family to pass on and cherish for generations. She worked at Ellison’s Mercantile and was a homemaker.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Henry Long; brothers, Howard, Millard, Everett, Tommy, Richard, Bill, Harold, and Donald Crawford; and sister, Pansy Canterbury.

Those left to cherish Virginia’s memory include two sons, Teddy Long and wife Elizabeth of Morristown, TN, and Chuck Long and wife Donna of Beaver, WV; three grandchildren, Curtis (Jessica) Long, Jenny Long, and Makenzie (Seth) Thompson; four great grandchildren, Parker Thompson, Landrey Thompson, Alexander Long, and Brady Long; special niece, Nancy Belcher of Knoxville, TN; and several other nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, July 14, 2023, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV, with Pastor Tim Sanderson and Wayne Sibold officiating. Burial will follow at the Orchard Cemetery in Ballard, WV.

A visitation will be held from 6:00PM until 8:00PM on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Virginia’s name to the First Missionary Baptist Church (P.O. Box 64, Ballard, WV 24918).
