Long, Thomas Ray
Thomas Ray Long, 68, of Goodwins Ferry Road, Pembroke, Va., in Giles County passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2008, at Giles Memorial Hospital. He was born in Nuttalburg, W.Va., on December 28, 1939, a son of the late Lee Russell and Margie Simmons Long.
Tommy was a life long resident of Giles County and was retired from Volvo Trucking. He served in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War. He was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pembroke.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Scott. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Linda Atkins Long; three children, Richard and Susan Long, of Pembroke, Michael and Teena Long, of Pembroke, and Melissa and Gary Scott, of Pembroke; and six grandchildren, Carlie and Chad Long, Hannah and Maggie Long, and Travis and Afton Scott. He is also survived by two brothers, Lee Russell Long Jr., of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., and John Long, of Newport; and three sisters, Nancy Frazier, of Rich Creek, Betsy Sarver, of Newport, and Karen Mann, of Glen Lynn.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 19, 2008, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pembroke with Bishop Cantrall Martin presiding. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
