Long, Omega Turner

long_omega_turnerOmega Turner Long, 85, of Blacksburg, Va., passed away on Monday, August 15, 2011. She was born on April 26, 1926, in Floyd County, Va. Omega was preceded in death by her parents, Morgan Lee Turner and Fannie Arrington Turner; her husband, Marcus H. Long; five sisters; and one brother. Omega attended Radford College as well as the Medical College of Virginia and graduated from Radford Community Hospital School of Nursing in the last class of the nurses Cadet Corps and became a registered Nurse in 1948. Marcus and Omega were married on August 13, 1947 and resided in Richmond while Marcus completed law school and Omega worked at Stewart Circle Hospital. Omega resided in Blacksburg until her death. Surviving are her children, Judge Marcus H. Long Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth, Susan Long Robinson, and Dr. Byron A. Long and his wife, Julianne; and six grandchildren, Jordan and Brennan Long, William and John Robinson, and Madison and Thomas Long. Omega was a member of the Blacksburg United Methodist Church and was active in UMW and a Circle. Omega was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the Red Hats Society. Omega was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. The Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 19, 2011, at the Blacksburg United Methodist Church, Church and Lee Streets, Blacksburg, Va., with the Reverend Reginald Tuck and the Reverend Herbert Hobbs officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2011, at McCoy Funeral Home.
