Long, Harvey Eugene

Harvey Eugene (Gene) Long, age 71, of Blacksburg died, Monday, September 11, 2017, at Lewis Gale Medical Center.

He was born in Blacksburg on September 1, 1946 to the late Walter Mason and Nettie Olinger Long. He was also preceded in death by his three brothers, Joe Long, Bobby Long, and Owen Long. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Virginia Tech after 30 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Martin Long; sons, Troy Eugene Long, Chad Long, and wife, Leslie; grandchildren, Dylan, Megan, Ashton, Christian, and Ally; step children and spouses, Mike and Anna Martin, Jody Martin, Leon and Tara Martin, Missy and P.J. Adkins, Casey and Ben Cauley; fourteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 12-2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr. S.W. Blacksburg, VA. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Darryl Love officiating. A graveside service will be held Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Guil-Rand Memorial Park, High Point, NC.
