Long, Dorothy May Viars

amem_daffodils.jpgDorothy May Viars Long, 81, of Pearisburg, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 from Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

She was born January 31, 1925 at Pearisburg, Va., the daughter of the late Frances Elizabeth Akers and Green William Viars. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Emmitt Long, Sr.; one son, David Lee Long; one sister, Lou Holt; five brothers, Joe, Elmer, Martin, Clarence and Hobert Viars. She was a member of Faith Temple Church and was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Luther Emmitt, Jr. and Mildred Long, Pearisburg; two grandsons, Michael W. Long and wife, Sharon, Luther Emmitt Long III and wife, Danielle; one granddaughter, Dorey May St.Clair and husband, Stacey; three great-grandchildren, Kashon, Jaletta and Hunter Long; two sisters, Edna Viars, Pearisburg, Grace Martin and husband, Melvin, Princeton, W.Va.; one sister-in-law, Ruth Thompson, Roanoke; also numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Faith Temple Church with the Rev. Jeff Rhea officiating. Burial in the Mt. View Cemetery on Guinea Mountain near Pearisburg. The visitation will be at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate after 1 p.m. Wednesday and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
