Loganathan, G.V.

Dr. G.V. Loganathan, Ph.D., 53, Professor at Charles Edward Via Deptartment of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Va., passed away on Monday, April 16, 2007.

He was born in the town of Nallur in the state of Tamil Nadu, India on April 8, 1954. Dr. Loganathan strived for excellence in everything he did. His child-like inquisitiveness made him look for knowledge from any kind of source. It made him an excellent teacher, one who could explain complex concepts in a simple manner. More a friend than an instructor to his students, he made himself available day or night to discuss any kind of issue. He was approachable and modest, meticulous, and thorough-defining traits that translated into his family life. He was the best father a daughter could hope to have, and a loving husband. For many, he was a role model and a guiding force, and we will miss him greatly.

He is survived by his wife, Usha Loganathan and two daughters, Uma and Abhi of Blacksburg, Va.; his parents G.K. and Kannamal Vasudevan of India; his brothers, G.V. Sengottuvelavan, G.V. Palanivel, and P. Kumaresan of India; his brothers-in-law, Kumar Ramkrishnan of India and Mohan Sasthav of Cincinnati, Ohio; and his sisters-in-law, Senthamil Selvi, Nirmala, Deepa, and Sindhu of India and Jody of Cincinnati, Ohio.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2007, at the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church (701 Church Street, Blacksburg; located on the intersection of Church and Eakin Streets). A private service will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the “Treasurer of Virginia Tech” with a memo stating “Loganathan Scholarship Fund.” Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
