Loar, John Herbert

John Herbert Loar, 90, of Radford, Va., passed away Monday, April 20, 2009. He was retired from New River Textiles with 42 years of service and a United States Marine veteran having served during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Elizabeth Young Loa; his parents, Gratton and Essie Linkous Loar; a brother, Oscar Loar; and four sisters, Virginia Creasey, Arta Lee Loar, Libby Loar and Betty Walters. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Roger Bishop, of Radford; a granddaughter and her husband, Robin and Chad Fisher, of Radford; a great grandson, Cade Fisher; and two sisters and brother-in-law, Hattie Moore, of Christiansburg, and Della “Pete” and Ray Caldwell, of Roanoke.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at the West View Cemetery in Radford where members of VFW Post #776 will conduct Military Graveside Rites. Rev. Layne Board will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
