lloyd_nancy_boensTwo years to the date of her husband’s passing, Nancy Boens Lloyd, 70, of Narrows, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 27, 2011, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Montgomery County on June 28, 1940 and was the daughter of the late Aubry Edward and Bertha Sowder Boens. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Donald Thomas (Tom) Lloyd. A graduate of Narrows High School and Radford University, Nancy earned a Master’s Degree in education from Virginia Tech. She served as an elementary school teacher for 26 years in the Giles County Public School system and was also a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Narrows, serving as church treasurer for 27 years, an Adult Sunday School class teacher, and a Women’s Missionary Union member for many years. She also served as President of the Giles Education Association’s Credit Union and a former member of the Narrows Junior Woman’s Club. Nancy loved camping and was an avid bridge player who had accumulated over 100 master points. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, George E. Lloyd and wife, Lisa, of Roanoke, and Dale A. Lloyd and wife, Lisa, of Narrows; two grandchildren, Allison Lloyd and Jonathan Lloyd; a brother, Bernard Boens and wife, Lee, of Shawsville; two sisters, Linda Clevinger and husband, Norman, of Decatur, Ala., and Eleanor Boens and husband, Greg Rose, of Richmond; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends and caregivers. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Narrows, with the Rev. Jerry Sawyers officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. The family requests that those sending memorial contributions, please consider either the First Baptist Church in Narrows, to be earmarked for the food pantry, or to the Ronald McDonald House in Roanoke.
