Donald Thomas (Tom) Lloyd, 71, of Narrows, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 27, 2009, at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. He was born in Roanoke, Va. on January 22, 1938, and was the son of the late Roy Irving Lloyd Sr. and Phoebe Catherine Trout Lloyd. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Irving (Bob) Lloyd Jr.

A 1956 graduate of Narrows High School, Tom attended Hargrave Military Academy, Bluefield College, Concord University and New River Community College. He was employed by Muncy Electric Company and retired from Celanese Acetate, in Narrows, with 37 years service. He served for 42 years with the Celco Federal Credit Union, holding several positions, including 18 years as President of the Board of Directors. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, in Narrows, for nearly 35 years where he served as a deacon, congregational song leader, moderator and trustee, and was a Past Master of Intermont Lodge #269 A.F. & A.M. Tom was also a very loyal Narrows Green Wave fan.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Nancy Boens Lloyd; two sons, George E. Lloyd and wife, Lisa, of Roanoke, and Dale A. Lloyd and wife, Lisa, of Narrows; two grandchildren, Allison Lloyd and Jonathan Lloyd; a brother, G. David Lloyd and wife, Donna, of Narrows; a sister, Suzanne Sayers, of Montana; a sister-inlaw, Sylvia Lloyd, of Radford; several special nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of very special friends.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 29, 2009, at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church, in Narrows. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, in Narrows. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service, in Narrows, Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m.
