Oveda Mae Garnand Linkous, of Christiansburg, began her earthly journey, June 14, 1918, and completed it Thursday, February 7, 2008. She was welcomed home by our Lord and reunited with her husband of 70 years, Arnold R. Linkous Sr. and only son, Arnold R. “Sonny” Linkous II. She was also preceded in death by her parents, William and Martha Garnand; four sisters, Kate Lawson, Melovie Peterman, Nayoda Burton and Treva Brooks; and one brother, Nelson Garnand.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Bob Parish, Mt. Airy, N.C., and Rita and Eddie Callahan, Dublin, Va.; and daughter-in-law, Susan Linkous, Athens, Tenn. She was “Memaw” to six grandchildren, Randy Parish, Waynesboro, Pa., Andy Parish, Rural Hall, N.C., Todd Callahan and Pam, Dublin, Va., DeAnne Callahan and fiance, John Webb, Christiansburg, Darrell Linkous and Stephanie, Athens, Tenn., Farrah Linkous, Knoxville, Tenn., and Dawn Camacho and Tony Morrison; five great-grandchildren, Katie Parish, Jake and Jaxson Callahan, Drew and Dillon Linkous; sister-in-law, Irene Garnand, Bonsack, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special friends, Christine and Randolph Morrison, Rudy and Hilda Helms and Louise Sutphin; and a loving church family and special neighbors.

The family will receive friends at the house, 200 Alder Lane, and visitation will be Saturday, February 9, 2008, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Horne Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 10, 2008, in the Alleghany Church of Christ, Christiansburg, where she served for over 70 years, officiated by Pastor Porter Riner.
