Linkous, Howard Eugene

Howard Eugene (Gene) Linkous, 82, died on Monday, October 3, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Montgomery County on November 14, 1939 to the late Howard Essie and Edna Geneva Linkous. He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard Essie and Edna Geneva Linkous.

He was a faithful and devoted servant of God, a loving and steadfast Dad and Papaw who cherished and adored his family, especially his great-grandchildren. He was a lifelong member of Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church and served as a Sunday school teacher, bible quiz coach and church videographer. He served his country as a member of the Army National Guard in the 116th Infantry division. He began working as a Police Officer at Virginia Tech on January 1st, 1972 and retired on December 31st, 2001, after 30 years of loyal service to the university.

He is survived by his daughters and sons in laws, Doris and Rex Shelor and Geneva and Anthony Watson; his grandchildren, Luke Watson and Jordan and Austin Crockett; great-grandchildren Micah Watson, Aubrie Crockett and Aria Crockett; sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Audrey Huffman and brother and sister-in-law, Lenwood (Woody) and Joan Linkous along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and staff of Medi Home Health and Hospice care for the support and guidance over the last 18 months.

In addition, the family would like to thank special niece, Amanda Linkous, for all the loving and caring acts throughout the years.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 11:00 am at Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Richard Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg, VA. The family will receive friends on Wednesday October 5, 2022 from 5-7 PM at McCoy Funeral Home.
