freeman lindsayCorporal Freeman Lindsey, United States Army, of Pulaski, Virginia, died February 28, 1951 as a Prisoner of War in North Korea at age 20. He was born in Rockport, Indiana on January 7, 1931 to the late Rose Smith Lindsey and Eldridge Hopkins Lindsey. Corporal Lindsey’s remains were turned over to the United States in the early 1990’s, and through a diligent DNA search for his remains by his family, he was identified and sent home from Hawaii. Freeman preceded his brothers and sisters in death: Elmer Lindsey, Delmer Lindsey, Charles Lindsey, Robert Lindsey, Emmett Dehart, Tom DeHart, Wavy DeHart, Myrtle DeHart Sutton, and Virginia Lindsey. He also preceded two nieces in death: Kathy Lindsey, and Linda Sutton. He is survived by nieces and nephews: Dee Ann Lindsey of Pulaski, and Renee Hill of Duluth, GA, Denise Alcantara of Pulaski, Gerald Lindsey of Pulaski, Freeman Keith Lindsey of Lexington,NC, and Marvin Sutton of Owensboro, KY. He is also survived by sisters-in-law: Dorothy Maxwell Lindsey of Pulaski, and Katie Maxwell Lindsey of Pulaski, and several other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Corporal Lindsey will arrive at Greensboro Airport on Wednesday September 28, where a special ceremony will occur on the Tarmac, and a funeral procession will be led by the Patriot Guard back to Seagle Funeral Home in Pulaski. Funeral services will be held Saturday October 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Seagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Freeman Keith Lindsey, a nephew, officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery with full military honors, in a space donated by the Town of Pulaski underneath the newly constructed American Flag Pole. The family will receive friends Friday evening September 30, 2011 at Seagle Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to any veteran’s organization.
